The number one goal for my life is to become a wizard. What does that even mean? What do I mean by 'wizard'?

Well, the answer to 'what do I mean by wizard' is... what you first think I mean by wizard, before it strikes you that you should start asking these questions. All the things that come into a naive observer's mind when they hear me say 'wizard' are exactly what I'm referring to when I say I aspire to be one.

Think of the characteristics of a literal wizard:

• He takes as his highest goal the pursuit of truth;
• He is considered wise and learned;
• He cultivates his wisdom and his learning largely in solitude, but does not shy away from interacting with others when appropriate, to further his learning or his values;
• His perspective is often alien to that of the society in which he is enmeshed, because he adheres to principles different than those usually shared social values;
• His knowledge is often highly technical, and it's considered mysterious to outsiders, but with diligent study anyone can share in his learning;
• He does magic.

Now, I'm not claiming that I possess all or even most of these characteristics. But all of these are characteristics which I hope to possess, and it's a striving for these attributes that motivates much of my own activity.

This site was likewise created to bring me nearer to this goal of wizardry. And you can help! If you engage with me, tell me when I'm wrong, help me to consider new perspectives on difficult issues, and generally advance my wisdom and my learning, you will have brought me nearer to my ultimate life-goal.
